Ignition Interlock Device
Trusted DWI Lawyer in Concord
Depending on the circumstances of your DWI conviction you may be forced to have an ignition interlock device (IID) installed in your car to prevent you from driving while intoxicated in the near future. An IID is expensive to install and severely limits your freedom while driving. Don't risk a conviction after a DWI arrest; call a Concord DWI lawyer today from The Law Offices of Darrin M. Gamradt, P.C. if you have been arrested and prevent having an IID ruin your life.
What Is an IID?
An IID is a small device installed on your engine which requires a clean breath sample to turn your automobile on. It functions like a miniature breathalyzer and it will prevent your vehicle from starting until an alcohol-free breath sample is given.
How long your IID must remain in your automobile in North Carolina depends on your license suspension:
- One year IID for a one year license revocation
- Three years IID for a license revocation of four years
- Seven years IID if the license was permanently revoked
Even after you begin driving with an IID, the device will periodically ask for further breath samples. You will be alerted and given a few minutes to provide one before you can continue driving. The device is constructed so that passengers are unable to fraudulently give samples in your place.
The Firm Can Protect Your Freedom!
If you fail a breath test while the vehicle is in operation, the IID will notify the court of your failure and you could face a longer IID installment or worse.
Judges even have the ability to require an IID be installed in your vehicle for a first time DWI case with relatively border-line blood alcohol levels. Don't let a conviction force to pay to have an IID installed and inconvenience you for months or years.
The Law Offices of Darrin M. Gamradt, P.C. can challenge any "evidence" against you and even work with the prosecution to downgrade your punishment to probation rather than having an IID installed. The office is ready to help you protect your freedom!
Take advantage of a case evaluation and call the Law Offices of Darrin M. Gamradt, P.C. today!
